Mario Balotelli has fanned the flames ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday by reminding fans of Manchester City’s 6-1 win over Manchester United in 2011.

Former City striker Balotelli scored twice during the victory, which was Man United’s worst home defeat since February 1955.

It truly was a horrendous day for United supporters, who watched as their side were carved open time after time at Old Trafford.

Balotelli posted a collage of pictures from the game on his Instagram account ahead of this weekend’s fixture:

Balotelli, now at AC Milan on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool, is no stranger to controversy and his post will no doubt rile up United supporters.

The rivalry between City and United is fierce and there have been a number of memorable matches between the two sides in recent years. The 2011 game was memorable for all the wrong reasons for United fans but they will look back on moments such as Robin van Persie’s late freekick to grab a dramatic win in 2012 with fondness.
