Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is full of confidence going into the derby against Manchester City this weekend.
The Frenchman has got off too a stellar start to life at Man United and he scored his first competitive goal for the club in their last Premier League game against Everton.
Schneiderlin won his place in the side back for the trip to Goodison Park and showed exactly what he was all about. Another top drawer performance against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League means Schneiderlin will be going into the clash with Manchester City in top form.
The 25-year-old is quickly becoming an integral part of United’s squad with his dogged displays in midfield and he looks to be the perfect partner for the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick. His strike against Everton proved he can do more than just run the midfield but Schneiderlin admitted he is not too focused on scoring.
“I always say, for me, it’s not the most important thing for me to score a goal,” he told manutd.com.
“The most important thing for me is how I feel on the pitch and I feel better and better as the weeks go on. I feel very good physically and my confidence is high. I’m happy with the way I’m playing. I need to keep going and scoring the goal was the icing on the cake.”
Schneiderlin, should he start against City, will be expected to play a huge role in how the game eventually turns out, given his crucial role in midfield. On many occasions in the past few seasons, United have struggled to gain a good grip of the middle of the park in derby games but supporters will be hoping that Schneiderlin is the answer to this problem.
The former Southampton man will be playing in his first Manchester derby, after signing for United this summer, and he will be desperate to leave a mark and, in turn, help his side leapfrog City at the top of the Premier League.
