Morgan Schneiderlin believes Manchester United can make a “statement” by beating Manchester City on Sunday.
Man United head into the weekend third in the Premier League, with Arsenal in second and City at the summit.
Three points against the ‘noisy neighbours’ on Sunday could see United reach top spot if other results go their way.
Schneiderlin insisted United are relishing the prospect of getting one over City, although he added that the game won’t make or break their season.
“It won’t say everything about how the rest of the season will go but it will mark a print [in the season],” Schneiderlin said.
“And, if we can win this game and beat City and possibly get back to first place, it will make a statement again. So, for us, it’s very important to do that especially in front of our own fans. But, whatever happens, it won’t be the end, we still need to work hard because it’s a long season.”
Schneiderlin has been in impressive form as of late and his work in midfield could be the key to securing a positive result against City. The Frenchman has struck up a fruitful partnership with Bastian Schweinsteiger in recent weeks and the pair will be hoping to continue their good form at Old Trafford this weekend.
