Manchester United fans criticise awful Wayne Rooney following performance against Manchester City

Wayne Rooney put in yet another poor performance as Manchester United and Manchester City played out a dull 0-0 draw in the Premier League on Sunday.

Rooney lead the line for Man United on a day that was dominated by the defences and he struggled to break City down. The striker was woeful in the final third and nothing seemed to work for him. Rooney’s touch and passing both let him down on numerous occasions and he was unable to fashion a chance for himself.

England’s leading goal scorer has come under a lot of pressure recently as his performances have started to deteriorate and his display against City has done nothing to help him.

Rooney has been poor all season and United fans are beginning to lose their patience with their skipper:

Many United supporters are hoping that Rooney’s almost guaranteed starting spot is something Louis van Gaal has a rethink about as the former Everton man is starting to be detrimental to the team. Rooney is often the reason for many of United’s attacks breaking down and his inability to hold the ball up means the Reds often struggle to hold onto the ball for extended periods of time.

The lack of quality in the final third was there for everyone to see at Old Trafford but it is something United fans have started to get used to. Rooney’s poor showings are not isolated incidents anymore and it could (and, perhaps, should) be time for the captain to face a spell on the sidelines.
