Predicted XI and Formation: Manchester United vs Middlesbrough

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea – He doesn’t need a rest, sorry Sergio Romero.

Matteo Darmian – Should see him come back into the starting XI in his favoured right-back spot.

Daley Blind – Would really like to see Chris Smalling get a rest.

Phil Jones – Going from strength to strength, needs to keep playing games to help that curve continue.

Marcos Rojo – Think he may well be rested but not sure who else to play at left-back in his absence?

Michael CarrickBastian Schweinsteiger definitely needs a rest and it’s time Carrick got some minutes.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Another player who could arguably be rested.

Andreas Pereira – Time for you to shine again Andreas.

Jesse Lingard – Love to see him in the team at the moment, should get a full game.

Memphis Depay – Needs to brush his shoulders off and kick on. Goal against Middlesbrough could spark that.

James Wilson – The missing man, the forgotten striker. If he isn’t going to start this game, he won’t start any.

Formation – I see Louis van Gaal sticking with the 4-2-3-1 formation which has become his favoured one this season. Why change it?
