Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has thanked the club’s fans for helping make his testimonial happen.

The Englishman is set to be recognised for his achievements at Man United in a testimonial game scheduled for next summer, after supporters wrote to the club requesting the occasion.

It will be a great opportunity for the Old Trafford faithful to show their appreciation for Rooney as the striker nears United’s all-time goalscoring record.

By the time the testimonial comes along, there is a possibility that the striker could already be the club’s highest scorer.

Rooney has been struggling for form this season, however, and has just two goals to his name in the Premier League. The 30-year-old has been underwhelming this campaign but there is no doubting what he has achieved at Old Trafford.

The England captain has been at United for over a decade and has won almost all there is to win while at the club. The testimonial will be a great chance for fans to celebrate Rooney’s career despite his shortcomings this season and it is an occasion that he has richly deserved.
