Louis van Gaal: Manchester United have a ‘problem’ with their finishing

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that his side have a “problem” with their finishing following the 0-0 penalty shootout loss against Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday evening.

Man United spurned good chances to win the game at Old Trafford before eventually losing on penalties to their Championship opponents.

Van Gaal’s side have not scored at home in October and they have been producing some turgid displays.

The Dutchman admitted that United “have to solve” the issues with their finishing:

United were poor against their less illustrious opponents and can’t really have any complaints with the defeat.

A large part of why United have been so awful is Wayne Rooney, yet van Gaal refuses to drop his captain. Perhaps if he played Anthony Martial in a central role, his side would start to see better results on the pitch. Van Gaal will have plenty of food for thought ahead of the game against Crystal Palace this weekend.
