Axel Tuanzebe trained with Manchester United’s first-team on Monday ahead of this week’s UEFA Champions League game against CSKA Moscow.
The 17-year-old defender, who captained Man United’s U18s last season, was unexpectedly drafted into Man United’s squad for the weekend’s game with Crystal Palace following an injury to Phil Jones.
He has kept his place in the squad and it’s very exciting to see him training with the senior players.
Tuanzebe’s a great prospect and van Gaal has had an eye on him from last season when he was part of an impressive United U18s side that had a defence which teams found very hard to break down. For him to have been fast tracked into the senior squad is indicative of how much talent he has.
The next step for Tuanzebe is simply to keep up the good work and make sure he keeps training with the senior squad. You never know, one or two injuries could force van Gaal to use him earlier than expected and as he has already been named on the bench once before, he’s on the verge of making his debut already.
