Louis van Gaal not fazed by booing Manchester United fans at Old Trafford

Louis van Gaal was not fazed in the slightest by Manchester United fans booing his decision to take Anthony Martial off and pointed towards the win as justification.

Martial was having a tough night up against a physical CSKA Moscow defence who gave him no space at all but he is one of our most dangerous players in attack, hence the frustration from Man United fans.

As it turned out, Fellaini’s presence allowed Wayne Rooney to play higher up and it was his headed goal off a perfect cushioned pass from Jesse Lingard which won the game for United, so the boos are irrelevant as far as van Gaal is concerned.

Old Trafford collectively had its jaw on the floor when Martial came off for Fellaini. On paper, it was taking our most dangerous player off the pitch at a time when we needed attacking vibrancy so desperately but United’s win is all that matters.

Van Gaal’s a stubborn man, we all know that, and the fact he isn’t phased by 70,000 odd fans booing his decision is testament to that. United desperately needed that win to ease the pressure after a very dour October and hopefully a page can now be turned and we can kick on with a win against West Brom at the weekend.
