Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo produces attacking display vs CSKA Moscow

Marcos Rojo produced an encouraging attacking display from left-back in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night.

In a match where Man United simply had to go for the jugular, the Argentine bombed forward against a CSKA side that rarely threatened throughout the evening.

A quick look at Rojo’s remarkable stats show how attack-minded he was: 8 shots, 2 chances created, 17 crosses and 12 take ons.

The narrow scoreline somewhat belies the attitude Louis van Gaal‘s side took into this must-win contest; they were notably more potent and incisive in attack, pinning the visitors back through a foray of onslaughts in the early stages.

Rojo, a solid but cagey left-back, epitomised United’s newly found attacking intentions with his solid performance. He linked up well with Jesse Lingard throughout the game, constantly finding his way in behind Figureira Fernandes.

On another day the 25-year-old could have scored his first Champions League goal, with the left-back narrowly sending a volley and header wide either side of half time.
