Liverpool target Victor Valdes move in January transfer window – report

Liverpool have made Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes their top target for when the transfer market reopens in January, according to Don Balon.

The shot stopper has fallen out of favour at Man United after a falling out with manager Louis van Gaal.

Valdes is not allowed to train with the first-team anymore and does not compete for the club at any level, after allegedly refusing to play for the U21s last season.

Valdes signed for United in January but has made just two appearances for the first-team since.

With David De Gea staying at Old Trafford past the summer and the signing of Sergio Romero, Valdes has been unable to force his way back into the team and it seems his United career is over.

The Spaniard’s move to Besiktas fell through this summer after his wage demands could not be met, meaning he stayed in Manchester but has been nowhere near the first-team this season. Liverpool are looking to end his nightmare stint at United in what would be a shock move. Former manager Brendan Rodgers signed Adam Bogdan as back-up to Simon Mignolet and it is difficult to see where Valdes would fit in to their setup.

The World Cup winner has had a torrid time at United and the sooner it ends, the better. He will hope he is able to find a move in January but it will not be easy, given his demands. Valdes will be looking for a club who can pay his wages but also guarantee him first-team football, something Liverpool certainly can’t offer.
