Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has been named in the official Champions League Team of the Week following his superb display against CSKA Moscow this week.
Smalling was in imperious form yet again against the Russian side and he played a crucial role in the 1-0 win with a goal-line clearance from Seydou Doumbia’s effort when the score was 0-0.
Wayne Rooney then headed home minutes later to hand Man United a much needed victory.
Smalling’s performance left an impression on UEFA.com, who identified him as one of the top performers in Europe this week:

Smalling, or ‘Mike’ as he has come to be known, really has gone from strength to strength since a disappointing red card in the Manchester derby last year.
A consistent, injury free run in the team has benefited him hugely and he is now rightly considered to be an integral part of the first-team. Louis van Gaal deserves huge credit for the Englishman’s turnaround in form.
