Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia undergoes surgery on his foot

Manchester United midfielder Antonio Valencia has undergone an operation on his foot and is set for a spell on the sidelines.

The Ecuadorian midfielder had surgery during the summer on the same left ankle which he broke back in 2011 and it’s more than likely that this operation is partly to do with that as well.

Louis van Gaal preferred Antonio Valencia for a couple of games this season when he felt Matteo Darmian was out-of-form, notably at home in the Manchester derby where he actually played very well.

It leaves Man United short of options at right-back. Darmian is still our first-choice but with Ashley Young stepping into that role already, United certainly don’t have overwhelming strength in depth. We’re now one injury to Darmian away from having a bit of a crisis in that position.

We wish Valencia a quick recovery and hopefully there aren’t any complications in his recovery from the operation.
