Manchester United legend Roy Keane jokes: ‘I made Ronaldo!’

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has joked that he made Cristiano Ronaldo into the player he is today.

Keane and Ronaldo played with each other at Man United between 2003 and 2005, winning just the FA Cup.

Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in 2009 while Keane joined Celtic in 2005 following a falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Irishman joked that Ronaldo wouldn’t be where he is right now if it wasn’t for his influence.

“Yeah I made him. Only for me he wouldn’t be where he is,” Keane explained.

“Of course yeah, obviously different players have different traits in how you speak to them and who you shout at and who you don’t, but I didn’t shout at Ronaldo that much. I didn’t have to.”

Keane famously had a fiery temper at United and there is no doubt that Ronaldo would have been on the end of a few of his dressing downs, particularly during his early career at United as he was frustrating as a youngster. Perhaps that played a part in Ronaldo’s relentless determination to be the best player in the world.
