Memphis Depay: I’m working hard to find form at Manchester United

Manchester United forward Memphis Depay has insisted he is working hard on finding his form at Old Trafford and for the Dutch national team.

Memphis was signed from PSV Eindhoven this summer with much fanfare but the youngster has so far failed to deliver on a consistent basis at Man United.

Louis van Gaal has dropped Memphis to the substitute’s bench in recent weeks and it is unclear when he will work his way back into the starting XI.

After joining up with the Netherlands squad ahead of the international break, the 21-year-old revealed he is putting in the hours on the training ground in an attempt to impress.

“It’s of course difficult when you’re on the bench but it’s going better right now and it’s also going better on the training pitch. So if I get my chance to play, I will take it,” Memphis said.

Asked what the reason was for his poor form, the forward added: “Well, I think lots of things have changed. I’m in a new club right now, it’s a different level (compared to the Dutch league).

“Such things are playing a big role, you’re trying to find your way and it was a bit easy at the start but then I fell back and you could see it in the way I played.

“But you can guarantee that I’m busy with working on that and getting back to the top. I feel fit and I’m trying to show on the training ground that I’m doing my best to perform well. People are used to seeing me score and that shall also come, it just takes a bit longer now. I’ll have to find that form again.”

Memphis is far from the finished product and it was always a big ask for him to hit the ground running at United. There is undoubtedly a talented player in Memphis and he has shown glimpses of that during his brief time in Manchester but he will need time before he fully realises his potential at Old Trafford.
