Phil Jones has insisted he is prepared to play anywhere for Manchester United and England, although he would prefer to feature at centre-back.
Jones is a centre-back by trade but he has played at right-back and midfield for both Man United and the national side.
The shifting of positions has hampered his progress somewhat as he hasn’t been able to nail down one particular role.
However, Jones admitted he is willing to play wherever if it helps the team.
“I’ve always said that centre-back is the position I want to play in. But if the manager calls me to play in the right-back position or wherever it may be I am more than capable of doing that and doing a job for the team,” Jones said.
“When you are learning the game and you are still young, it can be an added bones that you can play in another position and you’ve got another chance to play in another position. But wherever I am asked to play I will do a job for the team.”
Jones has only made eight appearances in the last four months for United and England over the last four months due to injury. While his central defensive partner at United, Chris Smalling, has kicked on, Jones continues to stall. He really needs to step up and develop some consistency in his game.
