Manchester United are monitoring Arjen Robben’s situation in Bayern Munich ahead of the January transfer window suggests The Mirror.
The 32-year-old is reportedly not a favourite of Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski because of his selfish style of play and casts doubt over whether his future lies away from Pep Guardiola’s Bayern side.
Robben is a rare example of a winger who has got better since he turned 30 but even so, at 32 he is well into the twilight of his career and although he still is one of the best in the world in his position, is it something that Louis van Gaal would even consider doing?
I’d personally be very surprised to see Robben join Manchester United in January, or at any point for that matter. He’d command a huge wage packet and traditionally United don’t offer players over the age of 30 a long-term deal, so that may not suit Robben anyway.
United certainly do need some spark in attack but with age not on his side and the huge finances behind the deal, there is surely somebody better suited to our long-term needs than Robben. Then again, maybe that’s just a matter of opinion because van Gaal certainly showed how to get the most out of Robben with his blistering performances at the 2014 World Cup.
If you’d said a few years ago that Robben could move to United then it would have been a brilliant idea but as he has only got a maximum of a couple of years left in his career at the highest level, our efforts would be better placed elsewhere.
Do you think Arjen Robben would make a good signing and is it something van Gaal would even consider?
