Carrick is currently injured having picked up an ankle complaint in England’s friendly against Spain last week.
It is unclear how long the veteran midfielder will be out for but early reports suggest it might only be for a few weeks.
Since joining United from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006, Carrick has built a reputation as one of the most accomplished midfielders England has produced.
The 34-year-old’s importance to the team was evident last season, when his absence through injury made a notable impact on the team’s performances on the pitch. Thankfully, the acquisitions of Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin have relieved the pressure on Carrick somewhat but Louis van Gaal will be keen for him to return to fitness as quickly as possible.
