Manchester United’s French and English players were united in solidarity on Tuesday night at Wembley following the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday.

129 people lost their lives in Paris after terrorists attacked a number of locations across the city.

The Stade de France, which was hosting France’s game against Germany, was one of the buildings targeted, with the stadium hit by suicide bomb attacks.

Both sets of players observed an impeccable minute’s silence at Wembley after English fans joined in with La Marseillaise prior to the clash. The likes of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial sent emotional messages after the game:

Great victory tonight. Together we stand united! @england ⚽️

It was an occasion full of emotion at Wembley and one that sent a defiant message across the world.

The result was of no importance whatsoever, with France and England standing side by side in solidarity against the barbaric acts. It was a small act of catharsis in what is a deeply troubling time.
