Manchester United’s Chris Smalling declares himself fit for Watford clash

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has declared himself fit for the game against Watford this weekend.

Smalling limped off in the closing stages while playing for England against Spain last week and missed the subsequent fixture against France.

There were fears that he could be out for the match at Vicarage Road but Smalling moved to allay the concerns.

The defender instead insisted he wants to maintain his run of having featured in every one of Man United’s games this season.

“I’m fighting fit and I’m feeling good to go again,” Smalling said.

“It’s nice that this run keeps on going and, more importantly, that the performances keep going because you can play every game but you must make that impact. I’m looking forward to making another impact on Saturday.”

Smalling has developed into one of United’s most important players having put in some imperious displays in recent months. With Louis van Gaal having to contend with an injury crisis ahead of the game against Watford (Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney, Marouane Fellaini, Anthony Martial and Antonio Valencia are all out), he will be relieved to hear that Smalling is raring to go, as will the Old Trafford faithful.
