Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal hopeful Anthony Martial can play PSV

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has indicated that Anthony Martial’s injury is not as bad as first feared.

Martial left Wembley on crutches following France’s friendly against England this week and there were concerns the youngster would be sidelined for an extended period of time.

Martial’s wife later claimed that he wasn’t injured, although she did remove the caption on her Instagram post shortly afterwards but van Gaal has now confirmed Martial could be back for the Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven next week along with Wayne Rooney, who is suffering from illness.

“It’s not so heavy as everybody has written in the media, but he cannot play against Watford,” van Gaal said.

“Maybe PSV for Martial but it’s not certain, and I think Rooney shall also play then because illness is not something of many days.”

A number of players will be missing for the match against Watford this weekend and Man United’s squad depth is being seriously tested. The Hornets will provide a stern test at Vicarage Road and van Gaal will be forced to use some of his fringe players such as Memphis Depay. It is up to them whether they take the opportunity or not, as three points will be crucial if United are to keep pace with the leaders at the top of the Premier League table.
