Dutch legend Ronald de Boer believes Memphis Depay must be given time to prove his worth at Manchester United.
Memphis started the majority of Man United’s games at the beginning of the campaign but he has been dropped to the substitute’s bench as of late.
Louis van Gaal has not started the Dutchman since the 3-0 defeat against Arsenal in October and it is unclear when exactly he will come back into the side. De Boer insisted supporters need to be patient with Memphis.
“It is always difficult to come to a bigger team but it is also a different country, a different league, higher expectations and the boy is just 21,” he said.
“You need time to adjust. It takes time. We have to be patient because I still believe he has the exceptional qualities to make it for Man United.”
When Memphis arrived at Old Trafford, it was generally agreed that he is a raw talent that will need time to adjust to life in the Premier League.
As it happens, it has panned out exactly that way so no-one should be surprised by his current difficulties. There is clearly a huge talent in Memphis and he still has plenty of time to show off what he can do at United.
