Phil Jones reflects on Manchester United’s ‘tough’ game against Watford

Phil Jones was happy with Manchester United’s vital win after Watford despite the fact he came off with an ankle injury in the second half.

Memphis Depay‘s early goal, which came after a buoyant start by the visitors, preceded an attritional encounter against the newly promoted side.

Troy Deeney’s late equaliser looked to have given the home side something from the game but Bastian Schweinsteiger‘s late goal ensured Man United came away from a vigorous encounter with all three points.

Louis van Gaal has now confirmed Jones is ruled out of the UEFA Champions League game this week against PSV Eindhoven, but he’s still delighted with the gritty win.

Regardless of the win, today will be a day to forget for Jones who suffered another injury setback.

Injuries have been an unfortunate scourge on Jones’ United career. And with a thick Christmas schedule on the horizon, uncertainty remains over the Englishman’s ability to play a consistently during such a crucial period of the season.

Having worked so hard to recover from a blood clot earlier in the season, Jones will be desperate to return quickly to van Gaal’s starting XI.
