Nick Powell returns to action with Manchester United against Norwich U21s

by Sam Peoples

Nick Powell made his long awaited return tonight for Manchester United in the U21 clash against Norwich City.

The 21-year-old completed 55 minutes before he was taken off by Warren Joyce and went straight down the tunnel, but it was not a surprise to see him taken off so early given that it was his first match in nearly a year.

Overall, Powell will be pleased with how he played and it’s certainly a platform which he can build on to work his way back into Louis van Gaal‘s plans. Here’s what a few fans thought of his performance:

I’m very excited to see Powell back in action. When he burst onto the scene with a fine goal against Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford, you could see he belonged on the big stage but it’s been a horrible couple of years since then up until tonight when he stepped out at Carrow Road.

Powell now has the opportunity to start afresh. He’s done lots of hard work and rehabilitation to get to this point but it’s now up to him to make the most of this new chance, and I hope to see him back to how he was back when Sir Alex Ferguson hailed him as a potential Paul Scholes replacement.
