Jesse Lingard impresses despite Manchester United’s poor display against PSV Eindhoven

Jesse Lingard was the bright spark for Manchester United in an otherwise dour 0-0 draw at home to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old injected energy and panache into a game lacking in attacking potency from the home side, although he should have scored at least twice.

A glance at the stats display how lively Lingard was: 4 shots, 87% passing, 2 chances created, 3 take ons (more than any other Man United player).

While Lingard, who blasted United’s best chance over the bar in the second half, will be disappointed at not taking his opportunity to put his side into the Champions League knockout stages, he ought to hold his head up high after another sprightly performance.

In another miserably attacking display from Louis van Gaal‘s side, Lingard, reluctant to descend into the pit of mediocrity that surrounded him, kept pushing to make things happen.

And while his efforts tonight proved fruitless, the youngster doesn’t look as if he’ll lose his place in the Dutchman’s starting XI anytime soon. With important games coming up, Lingard will have plenty of opportunities to display his undoubted quality.
