Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard suffers mixed bag against PSV Eindhoven

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard was left to rue missed chances as his side were held to a 0-0 draw at home to PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night.

Man United couldn’t find a way through a stubborn defence in the first half, before an insipid display in the second period meant they had to settle for yet another goalless draw. Lingard had the best chance of the game in the second half but could only sky his strike over the bar from just over six yards out.

The youngster started the game on the right wing, taking the place of Juan Mata, and was constantly involved in some promising forward play. Lingard couldn’t quite put the finishing touches on a number of moves in the first half and the pressure grew as the game went on. The 22-year-old had come under stick for his finishing after United’s win against Watford at the weekend and he showed again today that it is definitely an aspect of his game that needs work. United fans were frustrated with the promising midfielder and made their feelings known:

United now have it all to do when they travel to Wolfsburg in a fortnight’s time. The Reds have to win in Germany in order to ensure progress from their Champions League group and it is sure to be a challenging fixture. Lingard’s finishing let him down at Old Trafford and he will hope he can keep his place in the team in order to redeem himself in the final group game.

United will want to put another dismal performance behind them before they travel to Leicester City on Saturday in a top of the table Premier League clash. It is crucial that Louis van Gaal‘s men can put on a better showing at the King Power Stadium to keep their league title push on track.
