Manchester United’s Memphis Depay ‘humbled’ to have third-highest shirt sales behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United’s Memphis Depay has admitted he is “extremely humbled” by the news that his shirt is the third best-selling in the world, only behind Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Memphis was placed third in the list by kit manufacturers kitbag, with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Wayne Rooney also making the top ten.

The Dutchman admitted he was delighted with the news and revealed he is planning “something special” for his followers on Instagram:

While things off the pitch seem to be going well for Memphis, his performances on it haven’t been as promising.

The youngster impressed in the game against Watford last weekend, scoring his second Premier League goal, but he was rightly substituted early in the second half against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday following a subpar display.

The situation with Memphis is a difficult one. While he is undoubtedly a talented prospect, and one that will need time before he flourishes, there is a sense that he needs to be doing more this season. Players at United are expected to hit the ground running and patience is wearing thin with Memphis.
