Louis van Gaal: Manchester United can re-call James Wilson from loan

by Sam Peoples

Louis van Gaal has revealed that Manchester United included a re-call option in James Wilson’s loan move to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Wilson, who has barely featured for Man United this season, joined Brighton on loan on Thursday.

The deal is set to run until the end of the campaign but van Gaal insisted that United have the option to bring the youngster back to the club early if necessary:

The decision to include a re-call option is a sensible one from United, as Wilson’s exit leaves the team thin on the ground in terms of options up top.

Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney are now United’s only real out-and-out strikers, with Marouane Fellaini and Memphis Depay also able to play there.

It will be good for Wilson to gain regular first-team experience elsewhere, although it is odd that United waited until now to let him go rather than earlier in the campaign. Perhaps van Gaal has a replacement lined up in the January transfer window.
