Manchester United have sent chief scout Peter Braund to watch Breel Embolo and Borja Valero in action last week, according to reports.
The 18-year-old Swiss striker Embolo has an impressive record with FC Basel having got 26 goals and 18 assists in that period and has already made his international debut with Switzerland, so is already getting plenty of recognition.
With Man United looking so weak in attack right now, there is a clear need for United to strengthen in that particular area and it looks like Embolo is a potential target for Louis van Gaal.
Scouting a young, talented striker sounds like something we should be doing but the idea of looking at Borja Valero makes a little sense, given that he is a 30-year-old playmaker and we’re not exactly short of players for that role.
Anthony Martial‘s impact at United this season goes to show that age is irrelevant for the right talent and I do want to see van Gaal continuing to scout around for Europe’s best youngsters because there’s only so much success we can have now with local lads. Our most recent successes from the academy – Adnan Januzaj and Andreas Pereira – were both brought to the club.
The January transfer window is only a month away now and United are a proven goalscorer away from being a pretty dangerous team on balance. Could van Gaal be looking to bring in some extra firepower such as Embolo?
