Nick Powell and Marouane Fellaini score for Manchester United U21s against Liverpool

Nick Powell got his first goal after returning to action for Manchester United in the U21s win over Liverpool on Monday night.

The 21-year-old was in the right place at the right time after Marouane Fellaini‘s shot was parried away and he made no mistake from a couple of yards out with a shot he couldn’t miss from.

After a game where Powell worked his socks off, it was a richly deserved goal and he has certainly impressed since coming back from such a long injury lay-off.

He spent the best part of a year on the sidelines but the early signs in his first couple of performances are very encouraging indeed and the fact Louis van Gaal included him in first-team training in between is indicative that he’s been showing all the right signs behind the scenes.

Powell will be delighted at getting back on the score sheet and remembering the feeling of a goal. We’re looking forward to watching him over the course of the season and hopefully we’ll see him get slowly integrated into the first-team again.

Later on, we’ll be bringing you some fan reaction to his performance as well as a few other players such as Sergio Romero and Marouane Fellaini.
