Ander Herrera: Injured Luke Shaw is in a ‘positive’ state of mind as he continues recovery from injury

Ander Herrera has revealed that Luke Shaw is in a “positive” state of mind as he recovers from the double leg break he suffered earlier this term.

Shaw suffered the injury in the 2-1 defeat against PSV Eindhoven in September following a challenge from Hector Moreno.

The youngster is expected to be out of action for the majority of the campaign but he has been seen in good spirits while out and about on the streets of Manchester in recent weeks. Herrera offered an update on Shaw’s condition in an interview with manutd.com.

“You know, I was really surprised when I saw him two weeks afterwards. He was already thinking about the moment he’s going to come back and that’s good,” Herrera said.

“The mind is helping do a lot of the big work in the recovery. So what we can do is support him but I think he doesn’t need it too much now. He is very positive, very strong and very young with a long career ahead of him. He is going to come back very strongly but it was a shame as he was playing really, really well.”

Shaw’s recovery won’t always go smoothly and there will be times when the 20-year-old suffers setbacks.

In those moments, it is important that his teammates, as well as the medical staff, offer him their full support. Shaw is making use of the world-class facilities at his disposal at United and the hope is that he will be fit and firing back on the pitch sooner rather than later.
