Marcos Rojo and Wayne Rooney both miss Manchester United’s game against West Ham

Louis van Gaal has confirmed that both Marcos Rojo and Wayne Rooney will both miss Manchester United’s game against West Ham United this weekend.

Rojo has dislocated his shoulder in training an Rooney’s ankle injury is ‘nastier’ than first expected which comes at a time when Man United’s injury problems are continuing to get worse.

With Rojo and Luke Shaw now both out of action, van Gaal has to figure out who to play at left-back as Daley Blind is the only player available who is naturally suited to that position.

There’ll be a mixed reaction to the news that Rooney’s ankle injury is worse than first expected because he was so out of form that it might be seen by some as a blessing in disguise that will keep him out of the team.

Without Rooney in the side, Anthony Martial is likely to start up front against West Ham and that’s certainly a good thing. It’s by far and away his best role in the side and hopefully we can now see the 19-year-old lead the line over a busy festive period.
