Manchester United face competition from Bayern Munich in the race to sign Southampton midfielder Sadio Mane, according to reports.
The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window as Louis van Gaal tried to inject an attacking threat into his squad but no move materialised.
That hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from continuing and with reported interest from multiple clubs, Southampton are in a pretty strong position to negotiate a deal which suits them for Mane if he were to leave in January or the summer.
Mane’s current deal expires in 2018, something else which puts the ball in Southampton’s court, but as with pretty much any player in the world, he’s got his price. If United offered a fee they were happy with, Mane would be allowed to leave – simple.
The question is how much that valuation would be. An eye-watering figure of £40m is mentioned in the Daily Mail’s reports but after paying near enough that amount for 19-year-old Anthony Martial, clubs know they can really squeeze United for more which isn’t the best position to be in.
One thing is for sure – United’s attack is poor at the moment but does that need new signings to be improved or a simply change in formation and style? Let us know in the comments below.
