Ander Herrera enjoyed a day off by visiting the Christmas markets in Manchester.
The Spaniard has been recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered in the win at Watford last month and has missed Man United’s last three games. The Reds have needed Herrera’s energy and neat interplay in recent weeks and will hope that he can find full fitness before the trip to Wolfsburg.
United have to win in Germany in order to qualify for the second round of the Champions League and Herrera could be key to their chances. With Morgan Schneiderlin suffering an injury in the goalless draw against West Ham at the weekend, Louis van Gaal may be forced to play both Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Despite the quality the pair possess, playing two conservative holding midfielders could be detrimental to United’s chances in Germany. Herrera would be the ideal choice to play at either number 10 or in a holding role in a game where United must score.
The chance to recuperate and recover from his injury before the busy festive period of fixtures could be crucial for Herrera and United fans will be hoping they have the 26-year-old fit and firing going into a crucial part of the season.
