Predicted XI and Formation: Wolfsburg vs Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea – Hopefully he is unstoppable in goal. He’ll certainly be busy.

Paddy McNair – Overcomes his injury to travel and would expect him ahead of Guillermo Varela if he is fit.

Chris Smalling – The immovable Smalling is our centre-piece this season.

Daley Blind – Would much prefer to keep the Blind/Smalling partnership than move him out to left-back, even if he is our best left-back option available.

Matteo Darmian – Much better at right-back but needs must with injuries means he should start at left-back.

Michael Carrick – Huge game for Carrick. Has to fill Morgan Schneiderlin‘s boots with substantially lower energy levels, will be tough.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – He’ll be banned for the next three games so he may as well go all out.

Marouane Fellaini – Don’t want him to start ahead of Jesse Lingard but think he will.

Juan Mata – Provided the magic spark against Wolfsburg at Old Trafford. Same again please Juan.

Memphis Depay – Looked a different player in those last ten minutes against West Ham United. That’s what we all want to see from you Memphis.

Anthony Martial – On a cold spell right now as are all of Man United in attack but has the ability to turn that around in an instant.

Formation – I can’t see past the 4-2-3-1 which Louis van Gaal has become a fan of, especially away from home in Europe.
