Paul Scholes: Manchester United are an average team

Paul Scholes has laid into Manchester United following their exit from the UEFA Champions League and labelled them an average team.

Man United have now only won three out of their last 11 games and despite being only a few points off the top of the Premier League, Scholes isn’t impressed at all by Man United’s lack of impetus up front.

“There was no urgency, no threat and no quality,” Scholes told BT Sport after the Wolfsburg game.

“United lust look like an average team, and with an average team you are going to get average performances.”

Again, I’d love to disagree with Scholes here but he’s spot on. We were distinctly average against PSV Eindhoven at home in a game we should have comfortably won and that was the turning point in the group as it forced us to come away to Germany needing a win to guarantee qualification.

What we did show in Wolfsburg is that we’re capable of so much more in attack and goals are in this squad but we did so at the expense of our defence which faltered. If we can find that balance, then we’ve got a team capable of winning games on a regular basis but is that possible at the moment?
