The Chinese Super League are prepared to give the 30-year-old a three-year-deal worth £25m a year, which works out to a staggering £480,000-a-week.
Shanghai SIPG, who are managed by former England manager Eriksson, would be the most likely destination for Rooney.
Rooney would also be offered a profitable image rights agreement if he can boost the CSL’s profile across the world.
The Englishman has suffered a disappointing campaign at United and there have been calls for him to be dropped from the side completely.
Rooney currently earns around £300,000-a-week at United but his contribution hasn’t been worth the investment.
While he is undoubtedly a legend at the club and supporters will look back fondly on his early years at Old Trafford, both parties may need to give careful consideration to any deal from China or elsewhere. United would get an underperforming player off their wage bill while Rooney has the opportunity to earn a golden pay day.
