Manchester United’s injury latest including Matteo Darmian’s expected return date

Manchester United are suffering from a whole host of injuries and the list seems to be ever-growing following the loss to Bournemouth.

Man United were missing eight first-team players before the game against the Cherries and Jesse Lingard quickly made that nine when he came off with another hamstring injury in the first half.

Paddy McNair also limped off as the game moved into stoppage time in the second half, being replaced by Phil Jones who finally made his comeback.

Louis van Gaal confirmed that McNair was only suffering from cramp, having recently returned from an abdominal injury himself. United are still sweating on the fitness of Wayne Rooney, Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera, with only the Frenchman fit enough to make the bench against Bournemouth.

Matteo Darmian is now expected to be out for two weeks with a hamstring strain while there is still no timeline for Chris Smalling‘s return. Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia remain unavailable and are both on the long-term injury list, giving an indication as to just how much the United defence is struggling.

With Bastian Schweinsteiger only one game into his three-match suspension, the midfield does not look to be in good health either. Schneiderlin was not fit enough to start against Bournemouth while Ander Herrera has not made an appearance since the 2-1 victory over Watford last month.

With the crucial festive period coming up fast, United will need as big a squad as possible. The Reds will have plenty of games in a short period of time and squad rotation will be key if van Gaal wants to get the team firing towards the title once again.
