Manchester United striker Anthony Martial was once again a bright spark on a dark day for the Reds as they were beaten 2-1 away at Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Frenchman started the game up front in the absence of skipper Wayne Rooney and had a golden chance to bring Man United back on level terms in the first half. Martial snapped at his chance but his overall performance proved that he is one of the few players at the club right now pulling their weight.
The 20-year-old’s intent to bring the team forward and hold up play to allow midfielders to run in behind him have been some of the few positives that United can take from their poor displays recently. Louis van Gaal‘s men are now without a win in their last five games but fans were happy with Martial’s showing:
He Martial. Just took on half the team on his own.

Martial is a diamond on top of a dung heap. The kid is incredible.

Martial in a creative team would probably be banging goals in.

The loss means United are three points behind both Leicester City and Manchester City in the table, with the former still having a game in hand. It is clear that something needs to change at Old Trafford but Martial has been a welcome surprise for the supporters this season. Having signed as somewhat of an unknown quantity, he has kept up his performance levels and been a constant threat whenever United have taken to the field.
Martial will need help from those around him if he is to really cash in on his ability. The youngster has earned himself an extended run in the team and will be hoping the team can get back to form and help him break his Premier League scoring drought.
