David de Gea: There is a ‘great atmosphere’ at Manchester United

David de Gea has insisted that there is a “great atmosphere” within the Manchester United squad despite their drop off in form in recent weeks.

Man United were knocked out of the Champions League following defeat against Wolfsburg last week and were beaten by Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.

There have been reports that the squad are unhappy with Louis van Gaal but De Gea insisted that they are “very together”.

“There’s a great atmosphere,” De Gea said.

“The dressing room is very together and united, they are a great set of lads and we’re all very happy with the group of players that we have and I think that’s really important in a team if it wants to achieve big things.”

Despite De Gea’s comments, the players on the pitch have looked lost and disinterested in recent weeks.

It seems as if van Gaal has been unable to motivate his players and the recent reports about disharmony within the United squad will be concerning for fans and the board. If performances continue to disappoint and United’s league form suffers, then serious questions will be asked of van Gaal and the club may have to make a difficult decision in the summer, particularly with Pep Guardiola reportedly becoming available.
