Warren Joyce: James Wilson is gaining valuable experience on loan at Brighton

Manchester United U21 coach Warren Joyce believes James Wilson is gaining valuable experience on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Wilson joined Brighton on loan from Man United at the end of last month and he has already scored twice for the Seagulls.

Some supporters were of the opinion that Wilson would be better served being given a chance in United’s first-team but Joyce insisted the youngster will benefit from his move to Brighton.

“He’s hit the ground running and taken the opportunities to score well,” Joyce said.

“Obviously they’re near the top of the league and it’s good experience for him. If he can manage to stay in the team and contribute for a side that gets promotion, it will be great for him.”

Wilson would have continued to struggle for game time at United if he had stayed, so getting regular minutes on the pitch for Brighton will do him the world of good.

The 20-year-old still has plenty of time to develop before making an impression back at Old Trafford. A number of players have done the same – Danny Welbeck, Jonny Evans and Tom Cleverley spring to mind – and there is no reason why Wilson can’t follow in their footsteps.
