Holland manager Danny Blind believes that Memphis Depay has struggled to cope with the “turbulence” of moving to Manchester United.
Memphis moved to Man United from PSV Eindhoven this summer following a blistering season with the Dutch side.
However, he has so far failed to replicate the form that once made him one of the most revered young talents in the world. Blind insisted Memphis will have to adjust from being the “celebrated boy” to one of a number of big names at United.
“Our doctor Piet Bon always says that any change can bring turbulence and that is right,” Blind said.
”Especially when you are a young player at PSV and move to Manchester United; it’s a new environment. From the celebrated boy to being just one of the members of the squad [was always going to be hard].”
Memphis has shown over the course of the campaign that he has a big personality and Blind may be alluding to that.
The youngster certainly has the confidence to succeed, having taken on the responsibility of the famous No.7 shirt at United. Fans have been let down by a number of players such as Angel di Maria who have worn the shirt in recent years and the hope is that Memphis doesn’t suffer the same fate.
