Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal questions fans’ belief

Louis van Gaal has questioned the belief of Manchester United fans as he continues to face scrutiny at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal is currently under pressure at Man United having suffered back to back defeats against Wolfsburg and Bournemouth.

United are now out of the Champions League and have produced a number of meek attacking displays in the Premier League. Van Gaal insisted that fans “cannot see” what he is trying to do at the club and that they must stick by him and the team.

“That is always like that when you lose,” van Gaal said.

“Fans have to prove their belief again. And, when you lose, that is less at that moment. The board of directors can see what you can do as a manager, but the fans cannot see that. So when you lose, you need the belief of the fans. But that’s a question for the fans, not for the manager.”

Supporters have been losing patience with van Gaal in recent weeks so perhaps it wasn’t the best move from the Dutchman to question their belief.

Van Gaal is clearly building for the future at Old Trafford having brought in a number of young players before promoting others, but, with the money he has spent since taking over, results simply haven’t been good enough. Anything less than three points against Norwich City on Saturday would see the pressure reach fever pitch.
