Disappointed Manchester United striker Anthony Martial thankful for Golden Boy award

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial had mixed feelings following the Reds loss to Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday, after he received his Golden Boy 2015 trophy.

The Frenchman was awarded the coveted prize before the game against the Canaries and was given his trophy just before kick-off. Martial proved just why he is so highly thought of across the continent, scoring Man United’s only goal against Norwich. It wasn’t enough, however, as United fell to their second successive Premier League defeat.

It has been a below par season at Old Trafford but Martial has been one of the few positives that United can take away form this campaign. Since signing on transfer deadline day and becoming the world’s most expensive teenager he has shown exactly what he is made of and why Louis van Gaal was prepared to splash the cash on him.

It is clear things are not going to plan for van Gaal in his second season in charge of the club, as United will spend Christmas out of the top four. There were title aspirations earlier on this year but the poor form since the start of November has almost evaporated any chance of a league winner’s medal for Martial come May.

The 20-year-old must continue playing at the level he has been at recently for United to have any chance of challenging at the top of the table. The France international has been a revelation since arriving in Manchester and if he can reach the heights that many are expecting of him, there is no reason he can’t go on to become both a Golden Boy and Balon d’Or winner.
