Mesut Ozil tips rumoured Manchester United target Jose Mourinho to succeed in the future

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has tipped Jose Mourinho to succeed at whatever club he ends up next.

Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea last week following a disastrous start to the campaign for the London side.

The Portuguese has been strongly linked with an immediate return to management with Manchester United as the pressure ramps up on Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford. Ozil backed Mourinho to be successful in the future.

“I’m surprised by what happened with José,” Ozil said.

“He’s a great manager. I believe that any club he goes to now he will be successful again. I know how special he is as a manager. He is a manager who always supports his team and always protects his team. He’s getting the best out of any player. I wish him all the best for the future, and also that he’s healthy and fine.”

Mourinho’s reputation took a hit during his time at Chelsea this term. He disrespected the club’s staff, lost the faith of his players and generally conducted himself in an awful way.

However, the fact remains that he is a proven, world-class manager. He has won trophies at every club he has managed. If van Gaal is sacked in the coming weeks, United could certainly do worse than bring Mourinho in, although some may be hoping that the club goes all out for Pep Guardiola, who announced his intention to leave Bayern Munich recently.
