Manchester United injury roundup ahead of Stoke City clash

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal confirmed on Wednesday that he has no fresh injury worries ahead of the game against Stoke City on Boxing Day.

Phil Jones should be available after playing 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat against Norwich City last time out, while van Gaal revealed that Matteo Darmian may be fit for the game against Chelsea following the New Year.

Long-term absentees Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo remain sidelined due to injury.

Jesse Lingard’s condition, meanwhile, is unclear but it appears as if the game against Stoke will come too soon.

Finally, Bastian Schweinsteiger will be serving the last match of his three game suspension against the Potters so he will be unavailable for the clash.

Reports this week have suggested that van Gaal needs to win against Stoke if he is to stand a chance of keeping his job at Old Trafford. The pressure is clearly getting to him – he walked out of his press conference on Wednesday – but the hope for fans is that things can improve on the pitch.
