Manchester United will want assurances from Jose Mourinho that he understands the club’s traditions as well as better behaviour from him if the club decides that the Portuguese should take over from Louis van Gaal, according to the Guardian.
Van Gaal is under huge pressure at Old Trafford following a string of awful results and there have been numerous calls for the Dutchman to be sacked.
Man United are aware of Mourinho’s qualities as a manager but they are wary of his off-field antics and his reluctance to bring through young players.
Officials at United want assurances that Mourinho would behave himself better and continue the club’s youth tradition before they consider him for a role at the club.
Mourinho’s reputation took a hit at Chelsea this term as he reportedly fell out with a number of players, disrespected physio Eva Carneiro and criticised referees.
However, he is a proven, world-class manager who has a track record of winning trophies at the very highest level. While Mourinho’s character may divide supporters, there is little doubt that he would bring success back to Manchester.
