Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has denied there is a provisional agreement in place for him to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.
Van Gaal’s future is in jeopardy following a third consecutive loss with a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford to Norwich, a game which saw the fans’ support in him dwindle and shift in momentum towards towards opposing him.
Mourinho is currently unemployed after being sacked by Chelsea but despite the growing rumours, Mendes has said there isn’t an official proposal in place.
“There is nothing,” Mendes said.
“We don’t know what will happen in the future, but now there is no agreement. There isn’t an official proposal either, that’s not true.”
That didn’t take very long did it? Within a week of being sacked by Chelsea, Mourinho’s agent is commenting on Man United rumours. It’s indicative of the current situation surrounding van Gaal, one which is far from secure.
Mendes stopped short of denying there had been any conversations between himself and United but at this stage it is all speculation.
The game against Stoke City may very well be van Gaal’s last as United manager even if the result goes our way because with growing discontent and clear flaws in his ‘process’ and ‘philosophy’ causing problems at the club, all is not well and a win won’t brush everything under the carpet.
Mourinho wants the United job, we all know that and have done for a long time, and the moons could now be aligning in order for him to get the opportunity he has been waiting for.
