Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United’s decision to let Robin van Persie leave the club this summer was a mistake.
Louis van Gaal shipped van Persie out of Old Trafford to Fenerbahce in July after he was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman suffered a slow start to life in Turkey but he has now bagged eight goals and an assist in all competitions this term. Ferdinand believes Man United should have kept van Persie.
“The likes of Robin van Persie guarantee you 15 goals a season. Van Persie would come off the bench and change the game,” Ferdinand said.
Van Persie is not the only one who has done well since leaving United this summer, as Javier Hernandez has also flourished at Bayer Leverkusen.
Van Gaal chose instead to have a small squad this season, a call which has backfired as the veteran coach has had to include youngsters such as Cameron Borthwick-Jackson in the starting XI this term. United certainly could have used a player like van Persie in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Monday.
