Louis van Gaal has insisted his Manchester United are “more or less always the dominant team” following the 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Monday.
Man United were much improved against the Premier League champions but they could only manage a goalless draw.
The result meant United extended their winless streak to eight games in all competitions. Van Gaal was not surprised by the display against Chelsea as he has come to expect that from his side.
“We’ve had many games like that. The way we’ve played this season, we’re more or less always the dominant team,” van Gaal said.
“The way we played, under that pressure and in the style we want to play, was fantastic.”
While United put in a much better performance against Chelsea, it has been hard to take away positives from recent defeats against Norwich City, Bournemouth and Stoke City.
The display against Chelsea earned van Gaal a stay of execution but you get the sense that he will be let go if he doesn’t secure all three points against Swansea City next time out. That being said, he has survived so far and United may be giving him their backing. It could prove to be an awful decision as United seem to have gone backwards under van Gaal’s tutelage.
